Google Earth displays satellite images Esa

date satellite imagery were typically part aesthetic, part informative single images, therefore, but in isolation from their geographic area. That should change now, at least as far as shots of the Esa : The European Space Agency has its own content level, a so-called Layer for Google Earth produced. More than 130 satellite images are individually called up on the virtual earth.

Access to images is done through the "Featured Content" or "recommendations" in the sidebar "levels" of Google Earth. Here each offer from other providers - such as National Geographic, the Jane Goodall Institute and the UN Environment Programme UNEP - also a check box for the Esa-images. The pictures show the impressive views of famous places and environmental changes that are complemented with information, facts and figures and scientific explanations.

John Hanke, director of Google Earth, described the cooperation with the ESA as an "important step on the way to help people around the world . Understand their environment better, "Even Volker Liebig, Director of Earth Observation Programmes, ESA was crazy about the new possibilities: The footage is the Google Earth users the chance to know their planet from a new angle, and appreciate it, by "consider his tender spots with his own eyes".

The images of the collection be taken up by the ESA satellite Envisat, ERS and Proba.
